Building bridges—literally and figuratively! 🌉✨

Today, Ms. Ukazim’s class took a deep dive into the history of the Brooklyn Bridge and the incredible woman who helped finish it: Emily Roebling. When the project’s chief engineer fell ill, Emily stepped up, mastered engineering concepts, and guided the team to completion.

To bring her legacy to life, our students became engineers! 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️ Using graham crackers, pretzels, and marshmallows, they designed their own structures to see if they could withstand the "snack test." 🥨

Through this "sweet" lesson, students explored:
✅ Problem Solving: How to make edible materials stable.
✅ Perseverance: Redesigning when a marshmallow tower leans!
✅ History: Celebrating the women who shaped our world.

Way to go, future engineers!

🍎 Big things are happening for Hiland Park Elementary! 🍎 We are so incredibly proud of our very own Jaclyn McNeal and LaTarsha Ukazim for representing our school at the Bay County Reading Association Conference! 📝✨ Their presentation, “Writing with Flavor,” is taking the room by storm. They are teaching educators how to use a multi-sensory approach to spice up the classroom, spark engagement, and help students expand their language to take their writing to the next level. 🌶️📖 Please join us in celebrating these two amazing leaders who are constantly finding creative ways to inspire our students and their fellow teachers! 👏🎉 #HPELeadtheWay #BCRA #WritingWithFlavor #TeacherLeaders #MultisensoryLearning #StudentSuccess
