Specific Transition Planning for Military Families:

At Hiland Park Elementary, we understand that transitions can be challenging for military families. That's why our Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLAC) is a familiar presence on campus. Our MFLAC regularly connects with students and families, offering a compassionate and understanding ear to address the unique challenges they may face during transitions.

To make the transition to our school as smooth as possible, we offer school tours. Families can schedule tours by calling our front office. During these tours, one of our highly trained Student LightHouse Students guides families through the campus, showcasing our welcoming environment. The tour concludes with our administrators or school counselors available to answer any further questions or concerns.

Ilea Faircloth, our Principal, is the designated Military Point of Contact and is readily available to assist military families with any inquiries or support they may need. You can reach her at faircim@bay.k12.fl.us

Specific Academic Planning for Military Families:

Academic success is a priority for us, and we recognize the unique challenges military families may face due to frequent moves. Our staff includes military spouses and veterans who are sensitive to these challenges.

To address potential learning gaps caused by relocation, we plan and prepare differentiated instruction for all students, ensuring that each child receives a personalized and effective education that helps them thrive academically.

Resources and Educational Opportunities for Military Children:

We believe in providing military children with a wealth of resources and opportunities. In our office lobby, you'll find an abundance of resources specifically curated for military families to access.

Hiland Park Elementary proudly offers the Leader in Me program and the Ron Clark House System, making us the first school in Bay District Schools to do so. These programs define our school culture and support students in becoming the best leaders they can be while fostering a sense of belonging. We understand that students who move frequently may not always feel a sense of belonging, so our house system creates a school family within our larger school community.

Student-Led Transition Team:

Our Student LightHouse Members are representatives of K-5 students who embody our 7 habits and 50 expectations. Committed to community service and learning, these student leaders are dedicated to helping all new students, particularly those in military transitions, become the very best Razorbacks they can be. They provide valuable peer support and guidance.

Support for Military ESE Children:

At Hiland Park, our ESE students receive support tailored to the needs outlined in their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). We take pride in creating an inclusive environment where we love and support our students wherever they are on their educational journey. Our mission is to help them reach their fullest potential.

Military Recognition Events:

We value and honor our military community. At Hiland Park Elementary, we celebrate Purple Up Day, a fun and festive occasion. In addition, several grade levels engage in creating cards for veterans and similar initiatives, showing our appreciation for their service and sacrifice.

Access to Mental Health Services:

We understand that the mental health and well-being of our students, including military children, is paramount. Our MFLAC Counselor is available year-round to support students. Additionally, students can access mental health services through parent requests, teacher referrals, and parent contact. We are committed to ensuring that our students have the resources they need to thrive academically and emotionally.
